Pickman's Inspiration
At the time of Thurber's visit to Pickman's studio in the North End, the majority of the buildings dated from the late 17th century. The Paul Revere House is an example of the type of buildings that Thurber described in his notes.
This photograph shows another example of late 17th century architecture in the North End. Written on the back of the photo are the words, "Charter St. - close to P's studio???"
Thurber's confusion about the location of Pickman's North End studio is evident throughout his notes and papers. This photo was taken in 1935, nearly ten years after Pickman's disappearance. It is one of several photographs he took during this trip in an attempt to find the location of Pickman's studio.
